American Association for Safe Patient Handling & MovementAASPHM activities at the 14th annual Safe Patient Handling East Conference March 24-28, 2014, Rosen Shingle Creek, Orlando, FL.

Over 80 people attended the 2nd 'Lifts and Slings: Can you Mix and Match?' meeting that was  held on March 25th 2014 during the SPHM East Conference in Orlando. The AASPHM draft sling safety guidance document developed by the inter-organization sling safety committee was reviewed and discussed.

Renee Neidhardt, MSN, RN, Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Program Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Educator in the Nursing Education Department from the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia was the winner of the Best Poster at the conference.  Renee's poster was titled "Implementing the American Nurses Associations’ Safe Patient Handling & Mobility:  Interprofessional National Standards into Practice.  The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center’s Journey"

ASPHM director Lynda Enos, was a member of the 26 specialist workgroup that assisted ANA to develop the standards.

Audrey Nelson receives first AASPHM Lifetime Honorary

Dr. Audrey Nelson, Ph.D., RN, FAAN was recently awarded Lifetime Honorary Membership to the AASPHM

"I am honored to be the first recipient of the AASPHM Honorary Lifetime Membership.  I simply was not ready to leave my life’s work in SPHM with so much left to accomplish in protecting those who provide care to patients, so I accept this award and I am elated to see that the mission and work of this association is carrying out this vital movement. It is paramount to providing quality patient care." Audrey Nelson
